THE ROLE OF YOUTH IN PROTECTING TRADITIONS


The soul of Malaysia is enriched by the profound diversity of its races and cultures.

In an era of rapid technological advancement and minimalist lifestyles, many young people have gradually forgotten their cultural roots and lost touch with the meaning of “tradition.” Malaysia, as a multicultural nation, is blessed with diverse customs and festivals. Yet, these precious traditions are slowly fading due to modern lifestyles. However, no matter how advanced society becomes, traditional culture remains valuable and meaningful. Youth play a vital role in reviving and sustaining these traditions. Their role lies in their ability to innovate, preserve, and promote cultural, allowing traditions to continue shining in modern ways.

A group of ethnobotany students from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) hopes to turn that around by encouraging homes not to serve so-called “ketupat plastik” for festive season.

Online courses for traditional skills such as mooncake, ketupat etc.

Youth can also protect and sustain traditions through active participation in education and community programs.


During "Miao Hui," young volunteers shared the knowledge of ancestral origins with the public.

The traditional Chinese Twenty-Four Festive Drums have now incorporated modern elements, showcasing a unique fusion of heritage and contemporary creativity.
